Walkup Connections

Walkup Information

Walkup Computing allows students and staff of the University to access the campus network outside their room / office, providing network connections for portable computers in floor lounges, libraries, study carrels, etc, around the University. It is also used as the primary authentication method for temporary and summer housing to maintain network security. Read more about Summer and Break connections on our Summer & Break URHnet Information page.

The only requirement to use walkup computing is a valid NetID, which all students and staff should have. If your computer already works on URHnet, your network settings should not need to be changed - just plug your computer into the wall (using the appropriate cable for your site - see table below), open a web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox), and logon using your NetID and password. You will need to logon every time you restart your computer. After you authenticate, you should be able to use the network normally.

If for some reason it won't work, you need to check these things:

If you get the logon web page to load, but cannot log on, you may have a password issue or some other problem. Read CITES's Walk-up Computing web pages for limitations of walk-up.

Walkup Locations

NOTE: Cable Type refers to the cable you should use to connect your computer directly to the walkup computing jack. For a better description of the two types of cables, see our cables page. With the RJ11-45 cables (one big end, one little end), it is very important that the big end goes into the computer, little end into the wall (the cable will fit both ways, but will only work one way).

Select a location from the pulldown list below to see walkup availability and details for that area.
