Windows XP Setting a Computer NameTo connect to URHnet, your computer needs to have a unique name assigned to it. To assign your computer's name, start by opening your Start menu. Right-click on My Computer and select Properties:
Select the tab labeled Computer Name and click the button labeled Change...:
Enter a unique name into the box labeled Computer Name. Note: Do not use "unique_name" as in the example...make up one of your own! Make sure that the Workgroup button is selected, and enter RSCNT into the box:
Click OK in both open windows to complete the name change. Configuring TCP/IP To configure Windows to work correctly on URHnet, begin by selecting Control Panel from your Start menu:
If your Control Panel is in Category View (see below), click on Network and Internet Connections. If your Control Panel is not in Category View, skip to the instructions for classic view.
In the screen that appears, click on Network Connections. Skip the next step.
If your Control Panel is in Classic View (see below), open the Network Connections control panel.
You should now see a window similar to the picture below. Right-click on the icon marked Local Area Connection and select Properties from the menu that appears.
In the window that appears, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties:
In the window that appears, make sure that both Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically are selected. Then, press the OK button in both open windows to complete the configuration:
