Unsupported Operating Systems
Housing no longer supports the following Operating Systems:
- Windows 95
- Windows 98
- Windows ME
- Windows 2000
- Any Windows OS without a license
- Any Macintosh OS < 9.2.2
If you are not using one of the more common operating systems in the desktop
computing industry, we officially do not provide support for your machine. If you are
using an earlier version of Microsoft Windows, we strongly recommend
upgrading to Windows XP or Vista. Discover your operating system.
If you bring unsupported machines to campus and have problems connecting
to the network a NetTech will be unable to assist you, outside of basic cable configuration.
We do have some documentation
online that may help, but highly recommend an upgrade.
Upgrading to a new operating system is fairly inexpensive. You can purchase
one from the CITES WebStore. If you have a machine
that does not meet the minimum requirements for upgrading, we recommend
purchasing a new computer. You can find relatively inexpensive computers online
that usually include the newest operating system.
The basic requirement for any operating system to work with URHnet is the
ability of the OS to send, receive, and be configured for operation under DHCP
using a 10BaseT ethernet adapter.
A TCP/IP protocol driver for your OS is necessary for Internet usage.
