FAR is located on the southeast side of campus across from the Illini Grove picnic area, adjacent to the President's house, the Arboretum, and Japan House, and convenient to the Atkins Tennis Center, the varsity baseball complex, and one of two major student parking lots. Oglesby and Trelease are both air-conditioned.

The first three floors in Trelease Hall are dedicated to participants in the Women in Math, Science, and Engineering (WIMSE) Living-Learning Community. Each of the three floors of WIMSE has a cluster of computers for use by those residents. Oglesby Hall is home to the Health Professions Living-Learning Community. At the complex level, FAR contains a library, a full-service computer center, an exercise room, multipurpose rooms, lounges, two dining rooms, and patio areas.
