Career Planner

Junior Year

Assess yourself:

  • Visit your College’s career resource center and arrange to meet with a Career Advisor.

Use your Resources:

  • Meet with a field specific Career Advisor to narrow down your chosen career field.
  • Speak with faculty and staff members about specializations and current trends in your field of interest.
  • Revise your resume and prepare to attend the Career Fairs on campus throughout the year.
  • Use all your resources to secure a summer internship or co-operative position.
  • Work closely with your College’s Career Center as you search for employment.

Build your Network:

  • Make contact with professionals in your areas of interest.
  • Utilize the UIUC Alumni Association to seek out mentors in your field.
  • Conduct informational interviews with professionals in your field.

Gain Valuable Experience:

  • Take a variety of field related electives to enhance your skills.
  • Complete an internship or co-op.
  • Sign-up for a "Mock Interview" at the Career Center.

Get Involved:

  • Join and participate in student organizations directly related to your major.
  • Take a leadership role in a student organization.
  • Volunteer for opportunities through the UIUC Office of Volunteer Programs.

Prepare for the Future:

  • Take graduate or professional school examinations.
  • Look at the senior year planner, what should you do to prepare yourself?
  • Request letters of recommendation from your internship/co-op supervisors
  • Update your resume with your internship/co-op position descriptions.
  • Research potential full-time employers and career positions.
