Career Planner

Freshman Year

Assess yourself:

  • Identify your personal interests, needs, and skills.
  • Begin a self-directed exploration of specific occupations.
  • Use the ACT Discover online assessment to start your exploration process.
  • Attend the Career Center’s "Guide to Choosing a Major & Career" workshop.

Use your Resources:

  • Visit the Weston Exploration resource area and become familiar with the services that it provides.
  • Attend a resume workshop and draft a first version of your resume.
  • Submit your resume to Weston Exploration for a 48-hour critique.
  • Register on E-recruiting & Monstertrak and use them to search for summer job opportunities.

Build your Network:

  • Meet other students in your classes, residence halls, etc.

Gain Valuable Experience:

  • Take a variety of classes across different departments.
  • Look for a summer job that will give you some field-related experience.

Get Involved:

  • Join and participate in student organizations.
  • Participate in community service projects.
  • Attend Weston Exploration workshops & events.

Prepare for the Future:

  • Develop tentative short and long range academic and career goals.
  • Look at the sophomore, junior, and senior year planners, what should you do to prepare yourself?
