ARTS 210: Ceramics I

The Allen Hall ceramics lab houses 10 wheels and 3 kilns including a raku kiln for outdoor reduction firings. The lab aslo has a full dry materials room for endless glaze experimentation. The class focuses on handbuilding and wheel- throwing with a variety of assignments that are both sculptural and functional. Non-traditional techniques are incorporated into some assignments with an emphasis on experimenation and pushing traditional boundaries of the material. The highlights are an outdoor raku firing/pizza party, japanese tea ceremony, and a final feast that revolves around dishes that are made specifically for each food that is brought.
