Health Professions Living-Learning Community at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

The Global Crossroads Living-Learning Community was initiated in the Fall of 2000 to provide students with opportunities to become interested in world events, improve understanding of global perspectives, practice foreign language skills, or plan a future that includes international work or service. This internationally focused community is a partnership with International Programs and Studies and Illinois’ various colleges of ACES, Engineering, Commerce and Business Administration, Fine and Applied Arts, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Located on the second and third floors of Saunders Hall in the Pennsylvania Avenue Residence Halls (PAR), Global Crossroads is ideally suited for students planning international majors and minors, international internships, or study abroad programs. The community of 120 students is co-educational with women residing on the third floor and men on the second floor.

Some of the unique offerings of Global Crossroads include:
Special for-credit courses for residents of the community. Global issues, cross-cultural communications, international films, or foreign languages are some examples of possible courses.
Interaction with faculty and visitors experienced in global issues.
Global Crossroads residents are allowed to remain in their room during University breaks (Fall, Winter, and Spring) at no additional charge as long as they complete the appropriate break housing contract.
Access to international cable channels in the third floor lounge.

In addition, the following are among PAR’s offerings to all residents:
Floor lounges designed for study groups and informal conversation
In-hall kitchen with utensils available for resident use
PAR Library
24-hour computer lab

Contracts are available on a full year basis or as a single semester for study abroad participants who will be on campus for only one semester.

An additional fee of $130 per year is added to the room and board rate to help support the special programs and activities.
