SORF and Other
Campus-Wide Funding
SORF (Student Organization Resource
Fee)
More information
about programs/events eligible for SORF
funds, SORF application procedures, and
application due dates can be located at
the SORF web site:
http://www.union.uiuc.edu/sorf/.
SORF, the Student
Organization Resource Fee, is a $10
mandatory, but refundable fee collected
each semester from students at the
University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. The fee was introduced
in 1978 as a response to the need to
support programs and activities of
Registered Student
Organizations
(RSOs). SORF is a funding partnership
between the organization and SORF funds.
SORF also funds
Student Legal
Services
(SLS) and the
Tenant Union
(TU). SLS provides students who have not
requested and received their SORF refund
with legal assistance (more information
on SLS can be obtained from its office
in room 324, Illini Union). The Tenant
Union, located in 326 Illini Union,
provides information to students
regarding housing, including references
such as landlord complaint statistics.
A group must be a
Registered Student Organization (RSO) to
apply for SORF funds. Information about
how a group of students can apply to
become an RSO can be obtained at the RSO
web site:
http://www.union.uiuc.edu/rso/index.html
any housing based student group meeting
the RSO requirements to become a group
may apply to be an RSO.
-
SORF
funding is a partnership between SORF
and the organization. Every year, a
significantly greater amount of funding
is requested from SORF than is available
so SORF rarely fully funds anything.
-
SORF
can fund speakers, travel to
conferences, travel to tournaments,
flyers and DI ads for marketing, rental
equipment, and permanent equipment.
-
SORF
will not fund: social events, dances,
gifts (any form of recognition), food
unless integral to the program, events
that are proselytizing or evangelical in
nature, events where admission is
charged to UIUC to students, postage
(unless integral to the organization),
publications/printing not also in
English, political endorsements,
expenses for fund raisers, wages, or
salaries.
-
There
are 13 funding periods – apply early and
make sure your event falls within the
funding periods.
-
SORF funding
application, schedule and guidelines are
online at
www.union.uiuc.edu/sorf.
-
Treasurer must complete the online
application.
-
Groups are invited to present to the
SORF Board at the beginning of meetings.
Each group is allowed 3 minutes.
PCC – Program Coordinating Council
-
PCC
is a central method of asking Student
Affairs units to support your program so
an organization does not have to
approach each individual unit, such as
McKinley, Campus Rec., OMSA, Illini
Union, Housing, Counseling Center, Dean
of Students office
-
PCC
will fund events of interest to as many
students as possible
-
Events must be free to UIUC students
-
Contact the Office of the Dean of
Students Office for an application and
application due dates
-
PCC
meets monthly to determine allocations
-
Residential Life Assistant Director for
Multicultural and Leadership programs
sits on the PCC and can help answer
questions about PCC funding or funding
requests.
SCP - Student Cultural Programming Fee
-
The
Student Cultural Programming Fee
provides direction and allocation of
resources for culture-specific
programming.
-
The
goal is to advance further cultural
awareness, encourage diversity, educate
the greater community as a whole, and
provide a forum for the development,
exploration, and improvement of cultural
programs.
-
Anyone (individual, organization,
department, program) currently
affiliated with UIUC may apply for
funding from the Student Cultural
Programming Fee.
-
Programs or events must be free to UIUC
students, faculty and staff and be
presented within the academic year.
-
The
Student Cultural Programming Fee has
limited resources and 100% full funding
is rare. The fee’s advisory committees
encourage applicants to seek funding
from other sources. Applications that
have indicated other sources of funding
will receive greater consideration.
-
What
the Student Cultural Programming Fee will not fund includes, but is not
limited to: social events, dances, gifts
(any form of recognition), food unless
integral to the program, events that are
proselytizing or evangelical in nature,
closed events, postage,
publications/printing not also in
English, political endorsements,
expenses for fund raisers, equipment
purchases, wages, or salaries. Events
held off-campus (beyond walking
distance) will not likely be funded.
-

instructions and submission deadlines,

the Dean of Students at
