Our Residential Life programs are designed to support the ideals of our VISION: Learning, Growing, Mattering: for every person, on every floor, in every community.  We utilize a programming model or philosophy based on assessment of students' ever changing and diverse needs.  Instead of focusing on program categories, quotas, or requirements, we stress with our hall staff in particular that the core of such a model is developing personal, mentoring relationships with students to foster community.

STUDENT FOCUSED
Below are some examples of the vast formal and informal, direct and indirect, individual-oriented and community-wide-oriented going on in our residence halls.

Living - Learning Communities
In collaboration with various Academic Affairs units and Student Affairs units, our Department currently has 7 formal living-learning communities for interested undergraduates: WIMSE, Unit One, Global Crossroads, Intersections, Health Professions, Weston Exploration, and LEADS.

Social Justice & Leadership Education Programs & Housing Student Groups
The Leadership Coalition,
Central Black Student Union (CBSU), Central Residential Funding Board (CRFB), hall or area based Black Student Unions (BSUs), Illini Guides, Orientation Leaders, UNFAS - Unidos Nuestra Fuerza Avanzará Siempre (Latino/a Student Union), AASHO (Asian American Student Housing Organization) and a variety of hall leadership, programming, and interest groups are just some of the involvement and leadership opportunities available to our residents.

Hall Traditions / Annual Programs
Snyder Hall's "Dial-A-Carol", Lincoln Avenue Residence Hall / Beautiful & Together Sisters' (BATS) annual Fashion Show, PAR's Soul Food Dinner, Allen Hall / Unit One's "Guest in Residence" program, Intersections & Global Crossroads "Guest in Residence" programs and, CBSU's "Cotton Club", and are just a few of the many, popular traditional programs our students plan & implement.

Additional Student Initiatives

Allen Hall/Unit One Student Groups include: Active Allen, Allenhalldeutschklub, Allen Book Club, Allen Volunteer Corps, L’Alliance Francaise, Audio and Video Club, Ceramics Exploration, Eusa Nia – Black student union, Food of Love, INK Literary Group, Planeteers, Q – LGBT and allies group, Orientation Committee, SHARK – hall funding board, Scrabble Squad, Society of Signers – ASL practice group, Small Town America, Spanish Social Club, Speakeasy – social issues forum, Stitch n’ Bitch, UNFAS – Latina/o student group.

The Paraprofessional Advisor Council (PAC), now has an open invitation to other paraprofessionals (Multicultural Advocates & Program Advisors) to join their group. PAC had a very successful delegation attend this year's Illinois State RA Association conference!

NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary) is the UIUC branch of the national organization that coordinates "Of the Month" awards, delegations to regional and national conferences, recognition for students in residence halls, and works in conjunction with other Housing groups and professional staff on leadership development in the halls.

Snyder Hall, our substance-free committed community, has a very productive Activity Council, STARS program, and Faculty Friends connection.
