Dear Prospective Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in becoming a possible student staff team member in the UIUC
Graduate/Upper Division Residence Halls. If you are interested in
our Resident Advisor position (RA) with Family & Graduate Housing,
you will find the position rewarding, challenging, and very
competitive. Our residence hall student staff team is foundational
in building a strong sense of community and purpose among our
graduate, upper class and international student communities.
Before you apply for the position, take some time to familiarize
yourself with the information on this page. Below you will find a
detailed position description, as well as information about our
Leadership Roles, which guides the community development efforts of
our staff. You will be asked specifically about your interest in the
Leadership Roles both on the application and during the interview,
so it is in your best interest to pay careful attention to that
information.

The Selection Process:
The RA Selection Process is described below.
1) Submit
Online Application (Due by 5pm on February 13, 2007)
Application materials will be evaluated and scored by members of
the Graduate Residence Halls Staff. If the number of applicants is greater than expected,
candidates may be cut from the process after Phase 1 based on the
score on their application material.
2) Request the
Online Reference Form to be completed by your two (2) chosen references (Due
by 5pm on February 13, 2007)
You should share the job description with two individuals who
will be able to serve as references and share with them the link to
complete a reference form on your behalf. Reference forms can be
completed by a University staff
member, a current or previous employer, a student group advisor, a
faculty member - anyone who may be able to speak to your applicable
skills and abilities. The identity of the reference will be
confirmed once the form is submitted. If you would like to provide a

2) Interview Day (February 22, 2007)
Qualifying candidates will be invited to schedule a 90-minute
interview time on February 22. Candidates should wear professional
dress. During this time, each candidate will:
- Have an opportunity to meet current staff members and ask
questions about the position.
- Be given a short tour of Sherman and/or Daniels Halls.
- Participate in a
60-minute interview with the Complex Director or Resident
Director, and a current staff member.
The interview team will be looking for the
candidate's ability to work within a team context, articulate their experiences and ideas,
identify and demonstrate knowledge of community issues, and be able
to address those issues in creative and innovative ways.
Resident Advisor candidates who participate in Interview Day will be notified of their status
during the last week of February.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will applications be
accepted after the deadline? No.
- How many positions are
available? Currently, we have seven (7) confirmed vacancies.
- Can I apply for a position
in just Sherman Hall or just Daniels Hall? No. Those
applying for the RA position must apply for both graduate/upper
division
residence halls. The Complex Director and/or Resident Director decides the
placement of selected staff members.
- Can I turn in more than 2 references with my application? No.
In order to conserve time during the process, please limit your
reference letters to two. Choose individuals who will best speak
on behalf of your skills and abilities.
- Can my references
send their letters via postal mail? No. Only references sent electronically
via the form above will be considered in your application
packet. The identities of references will be confirmed after
receipt of the form.
- How will the applications
be evaluated? Candidates receive a quantitative score and
qualitative comments regarding the various aspects of the
application. Each application and reference form will be
reviewed by at least two different individuals and scores will
be combined.
