Champaign Neighborhood Redevelopment
new student dining and residential programs building
Replacing the Gregory and Peabody dining halls, this new building
will be located at the corner of Gregory Drive and Euclid Street in
Champaign. The building will include a marketplace dining concept,
a central location for University Housing's student organizations, a
learning commons with study space and computer terminals, multipurpose and recreational rooms, and a coffee shop.
Fully Accessible Facilities
Scheduled to open in 2010, the new residence hall wing will house 150 residents, including residents with physical disabilities from
Beckwith Hall. The residence hall rooms will be completely accessible. This project has been supported by the
College of Applied Health Sciences (formerly the College of Applied Life Studies) and the
Division of Disability Resources and Educational Services.
Sustainable Architecture
Our plans call for the new buildings to meet
LEED
silver certification. Low-VOC materials and
energy-efficient systems will contribute to a healthy, sustainable
community.

A New Neighborhood
The long-range plan for the Champaign neighborhood calls for the
complete replacement of residence halls in the area to better meet
University of Illinois students' needs.
