Winter Break Closing Information
Undergraduate Residence Halls
The residence halls will close for winter break
at 3 pm on Sunday, December 16, 2007. If your ride cannot arrive
until after 3 p.m., you may wait in the lobbies of Sherman Hall,
ISR, PAR, or The Illini Union.
Break housing is available at ISR (space permitting) by contacting
the Housing Information Office (100 Clark Hall, 333-7111).

** Residents of Global Crossroads in PAR do not have to obtain a
break housing contract to stay in PAR during the break.
The following are some items to take note of as you prepare your
departure from your hall:
* Be courteous to students still studying when you are moving out.
24-hour quiet hours begin on December 8 at 12:01 a.m. and run
through closing on Sunday, December 16.
* Sign up with your RA to let them know when you will be departing.
Consult your RA for hall-specific sign out instructions.
* Please make arrangements to retrieve luggage from hall storage
well in advance of your departure.
* Close your windows (including storm windows in halls that have
them) and open your drapes.
* Empty trash cans and recycling containers.
* Turn off the lights and unplug all electrical appliances including
your refrigerator and/or aquarium. Empty out and defrost the fridge
the night before and take the fish home.
* Lock valuables in your closet or take them home, and remember to
lock your door when you leave.
* Check your mailbox.
* You cannot be given a key to enter another resident’s room in the
event you have left items in another room.
* Remember to take your contact lenses, medications, passports,
basketball tickets, or any other items you will need during
vacation. University Housing staff members will not be available to
let you into a room during break.
* Bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, and scooters cannot be brought
inside the building and stored in your room.
* We recycle newspapers and do not forward mail or packages over
break.
* Staff will be inspecting each room after closing on December 16
for safety and security reasons. Routine maintenance may also be
done in some rooms where necessary over the break.
* Return all library books to the drop-boxes at each residence hall
library in your hall/area of campus.
If you are moving from your room to another room in the University
Residence Halls:
* All moves must take place before you leave for winter break. Make
arrangements with the current residents of your new room or take all
belongings home.
* Schedule a check-out appointment with your RA
* Return keys for the room you are moving out of before you leave.
Keys should be returned to your hall/area office.
* You will pick up the key to your new space when you return in
January.
* Leave hub equipment in the room are you leaving.
If you are graduating and will need to move out of your room after 3
p.m. on Sunday, December 16:
* Please contact your RD by Monday, December 10 at 5 p.m. to submit
a request for extended occupancy.
* The very latest you may check out (with approval from your RD) is
Sunday, December 16 at 7 pm.
If you are leaving the University Residence Halls at the end of the
fall semester (e.g., canceling your residence hall contract,
graduating, moving to a private certified housing unit, etc.):
* Remove all belongings from your room, check-out of room with your
resident advisor, and return keys to the hall/area office before you
leave for the winter break.
* Leave hub equipment in your room for the next resident to utilize.
* Return Spanish cable box to front desk of origin (if applicable).
Closing Times for Residential Services:
* Most dining halls will close after dinner on Friday, December 14.
* On Saturday, December 15, FAR, ISR, and Peabody will serve regular
hot breakfast (6:50 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.) and light lunch (11:00 a.m. –
1:00 p.m.)
* Penn Station, Chomps, and eChomps will be open during their
regular hours through Friday, December 14.
* Busey Bean will be open during regular hours through Thursday,
December 13.
* The last dates for specialty restaurants are as follows: Soul
Ingredient, December 6; Cracked Egg Café, December 4; Oodles,
December 7; Cocina Mexicana, December 7; and Field of Greens,
December 14.
* Hall computer sites and libraries will close at 5 p.m. on Friday,
December 14.
* The laundry rooms will be closed and locked at 12 noon on Sunday,
December 16.
HALLS WILL REOPEN AT 9 AM ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2008
* Remember to return to campus with your ID and room key!
* Hall computer sites will reopen on Sunday, January 13 at 12 noon.
* Hall libraries will reopen at 4 p.m., Monday, January 14.
* Regular dining hall hours and a la carte hours will resume on
Monday, January 14, 2008
