University Housing's GO GREEN
Spring 2008 Contest
Submit your ideas for reducing energy usage at
your residence hall, and WIN a grant to attend a prestigious
conference in Fall 2008! All Go Green participants will receive an
organic t-shirt.
University Housing wants your help! Teams of up
to four students from undergraduate halls should submit their ideas
to University Housing by April 11, 2008, for a chance to be the
winner of Go Green 2008.
Contest Details:
Team/Individuals should submit up to four ideas.
Proposals can include any of the following areas of energy use:
heating/ventilation/air conditioning, lighting, personal
electronics/appliances and hot water.
Length limit for entries: 3000 words or 10 pages.
Please include each participant's full names
and contact information (phone number, e-mail and mailing address)
and attach your entry to your
email. Deadline: April 11, 2008.
Submissions should address the following
questions:

What are your ideas? The submission should
include four or fewer concepts plus implementation suggestions.

In what ways will your suggestions help to
conserve energy at your select residence hall and how will you
measure energy savings?

What are your methods for implementation
and how would you encourage people to participate?

Are there benefits, other than conserving
energy, that will result from the implementation of your ideas?

Top two teams will receive grants to attend
a conference in fall 2008

Winners will be invited to serve on
University Housing's Sustainability Committee for 2008-2009

Contest winners ideas and a collection of
other participants' innovative ideas will be featured in the
Daily Illini on Earth Day

A selection of ideas will also be published
on the University Housing website and displayed on bulletin
boards in residence halls throughout campus
Judges will include an Environmental
Council representative, an energy specialist from the Waste
Management and Research Center, a representative from University
Housing Facilities, and a member of the Vice Chancellor for Student
Affairs staff.
